The Windsor Locks Fire Department along with other area departments were invited to participate in live fire training on an aircraft simulator at Bradley International Airport during the first weekend of November. The Aircraft Mobile Training Simulator was leased from Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek Michigan. It provides a variety of aircraft fire scenarios such as 3 dimensional fuel fire, landing gear fire, engine fire and fuselage fire. The interior has 6 smoke machines that fill the fuselage with smoke to make it difficult to find the 5 mannequins inside. 2500 gallons of propane fuel were burned over the weekend. About 100 firefighters received training during the 6 four hour sessions. Training included hoseline operations and rescue scenarios as well as Bradley firefighters practicing turret operations from their crash trucks.
