Ken Jeffery Memorial Guestbook 1In Memory of Chief Kenneth J. Jeffery (1952-2003)
Name: Tim Jeffery Comments
Dad, you are my best friend and I know that just because your not here anymore you're still with me and the rest of the brothers.
Every time we make that stretch down a hall way and it starts gettin' bad I know you will be there to show us to a window or when
we're searching a room we will stay in one spot a little longer to find someone. You were definitely the firefighters chief and
NO ONE will you ever be able to replace you.........RIP dad, my brother and mentor. 5555
Name: Stephen M. Romanelli Comments
Brothers of the Sub Base Fire Dept. and Windsor Locks Fire Dept.
We both have suffered a great loss and there are no words to take away the pain. I worked with Chief Jeffery from the time I
started at Sub Base in 1988 when he was a Captain and an aggressive one then I was able to see him rise to the rank of Chief and
became our aggressive Chief. When the tones hit and we "went to work" Chief Jeffery would always be with the troops and
not in his vehicle whether snow or heat he was there beside you leading. I will miss Kenny very much and was looking forward to
working with him 'til his retirement, I was so glad I made the trip on Christmas day to L&M hospital to see him off in Life Star
cause he would have done the same for me. Tim you should be very proud of your father he was a firefighters Chief, be strong for your mom and be the firefighter that has
always been in you.
Name: Raymond Marconi Comments So many tears, every thing I do in the fire service I owe to Kenny. If it were not for Kenny I wouldn't be a fireman or an EMT. Kenny was an awesome person and a hell of a friend. I cant thank him enough for taking me to the Yankee games. Everything about Kenny's personality screamed firefighter and a fireman is the only thing I want to be. So I guess you could say I want to be like Kenny. The guidance he gave me, and the reassurance lead me through each day of my life. To Tim and Cathy, you have all my sympathy. You are both strong. I'm a very lucky person to be close to the Jeffery's. *God Bless Kenny*

Name: Jeffrey Post Comments Hey Chief, did you hear the one about the proby who got his buddy from wall st. to work for him? Well, it's a good one. There hasn't been a minute that goes by that you're not in my thoughts and heart, I loved working for you, you've taught me much about this job and I hope I can make an impact on the fire community the way you did. guys in WLFD were great in hospitality and showed everyone a good time. I'm not sayin' goodbye, rather, see ya' later pal. Jeffrey Post, S.B.F.D. "B" shift
Name: Cheri D'Alessio Comments Kenny all of us at D'alessio's Deli will miss you .... I will always remember you coming up to the counter and saying "what's good today". I especially will miss the times when I could sit and chat with you and Tim. Thanks for the memories and friendship through the years. You will be sadly missed.
Cheri D'Alessio
Name: Jeffrey Standish Comments Kenny you have left us with memories that can never be replaced, and either can you. You have left an imprint with me that I will remember forever. Thank you for all the words of wisdom and for the encouragement you gave me, I always looked up to you!!! I'll never forget the day of bone's stag party or the times I would visit you at SBFD. My deepest regrets, my heart and prayers go out to the Jeffery family. You will be greatly missed and NEVER FORGOTTEN.....
Jeffrey W. Standish
Name: John Rabbett Comments I have known Kenny for over 33 years , we went to school together. He always talked about being the Chief of the Windsor Locks Fire Department. Many of us have dreams, Kenny lived his dreams and helped so many people while living them and will be missed by many. He should have been called Mr. Windsor Locks because there will never be anyone who has done so much for the residents of this town. My condolences to the Jeffery family, we will be there if you need us just like Kenny was there for us when we needed him. An extended condolence to the Sub base and WLFD. Kenny we will NEVER forget you but WILL MISS YOU. God bless you. P.S. You and Moose and Casey are together again to tell your stories.
Name: Marcus Rice Comments I would just like to say that at my first ever fire class at the Fire Academy, Summer Camp 1997. I was a junior member of the Wilson fire Company in Windsor. I met Chief Jeffery as he was teaching a class of correctional inmates how to fight fires. He was a very nice guy. I was one of the bigger kids in the bunch and on a lunch break he introduced me to a 6 ft 400 lb inmate named Bubba which was scary for a 17 year old kid. Especially when I found out Bubba had already been in for 20 years. From then whenever Chief Jeffery saw me he'd call me Bubba and it always drew a laugh. I met him again a few times over the years and at fire dept. carnivals, etc. He was one of the first career firefighters that I ever met and I will always remember him. I am now a firefighter with the East Hartford Fire Dept. and have been for a little over 5 years. I thank God for having met him and his comedic way that was to me a kind of welcome to a wonderful public service.
Marcus Rice
Name: Asst Chief Bob Bohlmann Comments It is with great sadness that I write these comments. I learned of Kenny's passing only yesterday. Many of the Windsor Locks Fire Department members will not remember me from the past, I was a dispatcher for Windsor Locks Communication back in the 60's. I worked at Bradley Field Fire and later in years was on the Hayden Station Company in Windsor. Kenny was a leader, friend and great asset to the fire service in general. The Town of Windsor Locks and the fire service in general has lost a lot, we will all feel the void left by his passing.
Name: Tom Kinell Comments With heart felt sorry. I will miss him.
Name: Tom Fahey Comments The Chief was unassuming, unpretentious, yet unrivaled in his zest for what he loved to do! We Windsor locks residents are fortunate that Kenny and people who aspire to be like him, make this such a great Town to live in. Kenny's passing touched so many because we all recognized that he possessed the perfect balance of hard work, humor, and charity. He truly was a gift to this community, and we can honor him by following his lead. It appears that his son, Tim, is well on his way. Tom Fahey
Name: James Remotti Comments To the "Firefighter Chief", fellow brother, and friend: You have answered your last call and now you lie in eternal rest with your fellow family, friends, brothers, and sisters. Saint Peter once again opened the golden gates allowing you entry into a place unimaginable to most. Along with the reality that your physical presence has diminished forever, comes the warmth in knowing your spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Your soft whisper and warm touch will be heard and felt by all who knew you for now and for ever. REST IN PEACE BROTHER!
Name: Mike Tirone Comments As a former member of the Subase FD, I came to know Kenny in 1978. He had come to the Base after leaving Westover AFB. He was a piece of work even then. Even though he wasn't Irish, he had the Blarney about him. It was him that got the members of the Subase FD. to take an annual trip to Holyoke, Ma. for the annual St. Patty's day Parade. Needless to say it was the highlight of the year. When I left the Base for another fire dept in 1986, we stayed in contact. He was always asking how you are, be careful.... etc. I had a chance to see him just a few weeks before he died. I commented that Cathy would have to be put up for sainthood, after putting up with him for so long. We both laughed, wished each other Happy Holidays, and left, I said I would see him again. I am so sad at his passing. He should be walking around with his hands in his pockets like he always did, telling his outrageous jokes , and giving all the Red Sox fans the business. Kenny, my friend, farewell, God Bless You Cathy and Timmy.
Mike Tirone
Name: Debbie Richardson Comments Kenny will be missed by all our staff members here at the Academy! We will miss his smile when he comes to visit and is always upbeat about everything! He was looking forward to retirement! If you saw Kenny you saw his son! I am sure he’s looking down on us with that big smile! Our prayer and thoughts are with Kenny’s wife and son!
Commission on Fire Prevention & Control
Name: Bob Valluzzi Comments Serving under Kenny when I was a firefighter was a great honor, because he never made it feel as if I was serving under him, it felt like I served right along side him. Truly the "firefighter's chief", he put the bugles to the side often to play the part of leader, mentor, friend, and brother. He left footsteps in the hearts of anyone he met that will not soon fade away. Still, the only comfort I can take in this tragedy is seeing Cathy being the strong, proud woman she is; and Timmy, a spitting image of his old man in every way. Tim, I can only hope to be there for you 1/1000th as much as your father had been there for everyone. God Bless both of you, and know that Chief is going to be looking over each and every one of us. Someday when I answer the great 9 alarm in the sky, I will have no fear.... Heaven has the best Chief in command........ See you at the big one, brother.
Name: The Walsh Family Comments Kenny's stories and jokes put a smile on everyone's face. Every family get-together consisted of Kenny and the Walsh's talking about the "big one." Every parade we saw Kenny in the back of the WLFD line playing the drum. (He was always able to sneak a wave or a wink between drum beats.) We're sure that Kenny is up there with Bill Walsh (Sr. and Jr.) talking about the "big one" and keeping an eye on us at our next big one...
Theresa Walsh
Name: Michael English and Family Comments As I stood in the cold rain Saturday and watched Kenny pass by on Engine #2 and Timothy and Cathy walk behind, I couldn't believe this was really happening, then I started to reflect back on when I first met the Jeffery family. 15 years ago I was at a friends house, neighbor of the Jeffery family. There was Timothy running around with a hose on a hot summer day putting out fires and people with his hose, "my fathers a fireman, did you know that???" "I'm going to be a fireman too and help put out houses on fire"..... "Really!!! Yup". Funny how it takes something like this to jar a memory of a kid running around on a hot summer day - to a young man, laying his father to rest in peace on a cold rainy day. Ken and I never spoke real often but when we did he would tell me " we could use more volunteers at the fire house you know" always making that pitch to give to your community and protect it. You could see in his eyes the passion he had for this job. I believe it takes special people in this world to give their lives to serve and protect and to me that's what Ken Jeffery was, not just a friend and neighbor, he was a protector of us all. We are safer in our community because of him and the other firemen in this town. He raised a fine family and was and will always be a great asset to our town. You will be sorely missed. Our prayers are with you and your family. Rest in peace Kenny. Michael English and Family
Name: Jason and Terry DelVillano Comments Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families and friends of this great fire fighter of many years of experience, dedication and devotion to everyone he has served.
Sincerely Jason and Terry DelVillano
Name: Molly Matuszak Comments Dear Uncle Kenny, I know that you are in a good place now, but we all really miss you. It's hard knowing that I wont be able to visit you at the fire station any more. I'm going to miss your sense of humor, and all of your jokes that you told whenever we got together. You were the one that made the boring family partied interesting. Now I guess they'll just be boring. Your were one of the greatest fire fighters I knew. You would have been proud of the wake and funeral. It was the best retirement party you could ever have got. Everyone there left with a smile on there face because they were remembering the good times they had with you. You will always be remembered and I will never forget you. Love your Favorite Niece, and not because I'm your only one, Molly
Name: Bill Jones and Family Comments Another brother has gone to ride on the Big Truck. Condolences to the Family, the Windsor Locks FD, the Sub Base FD and all the brothers who worked with the Chief. From reading the Memorial Book, it is easy to see he was a firefighters firefighter. Using his favorite saying, we must never forget our brothers who have gone before us. Our thoughts are with everyone he touched.
Bill Jones and Family
Name: Carol Langdon Kohankie Comments Please accept my condolences for the loss of your beloved chief and friend. I think I had the privilege of meeting him while shopping at the Sub Base Commissary at the base. (I lived in Mystic from Jan 2001-Jan 2003.) I always talked the "the guys" since my son is a firefighter paramedic for the City of Carrollton, TX. Take care...all of you
Name: Marty Maynard Comments My family sends it's condolences to the Jeffery Family, the WLFD, SBFD and the state fire fighting family, we will all miss Kenny, his time with us was too short.
Name: Tom and Ginny Walsh Comments
I would like to offer our compliments to the WLFD for the the beautiful way they handled the funeral for Chief Ken Jeffery. Being
Ken's first cousin my wife and I journeyed down to Windsor Locks from Nashua, NH to attend his funeral. We were very impressed with
how everything was handled in such a professional and beautiful manner. Everything seemed to be done with such precision including
the Mass, the funeral procession, the gravesite service and the social after at the firehouse. I just know Ken was up there
saying "Way to go boys you did me proud" Congratulations to all the members of the Windsor Locks Fire Department for a job well done.
Name: Michael Debella Comments To Kenny: For all the laughs, memories and great times over so many years. I have known Kenny all my life (almost 18 years) and he was like a second father to me. We always went on vacation with his family and mine, and did everything together.. I cant believe he is gone. Kenny would always do everything for me no matter what, if it was paying for lunch or asking him for a favor he would always do it. And I just want to say to Kenny... Thank you for everything and I am gonna miss you, I Love ya buddy R.I.P.
Name: Cliff Colson Comments
Chief you were a man that I could go to if I needed advice in the past 8 years that I knew you. Every time that I saw you, you
would say "Hey pal, how's it going" and then ask how the job is going and always bust my chops about Suffield Fire.
You gave me the guidance to make it through Firefighter 1-2. Every time that horn blows you will be looking down to make sure that
we get the job down right and get home safely. I will miss you Chief but you will never be forgotten. God bless you Timmy and
Mrs. Jeffery.
Name: Al Roberts Comments I have only known Kenny since I joined the Windsor Locks Fire Department just over four years ago. In those four years the “Chief” always made me feel proud to be a firefighter in the town of Windsor Locks. Kenny was the Windsor Locks Fire Department and I know that physically he may be gone, but his spirit and love for the WLFD will live on in all the members of the department. The “Chief” loved his fellow brothers and sisters and you can guarantee that every time the horn blows in Windsor Locks, Car 10 will be the first one on the air watching over us and making sure we all return home safe. I am so happy and proud that I had the opportunity to serve under him and I will carry that with me each and every day. And as Kenny would say, “Hey pal, I love ya.”
Name: LT David A Collins Comments To all Fire Department members and Family of Chief Jeffery, I offer my most sincere condolences on his passing. I met Ken last year at the CT Fire Academy, he was a fill-in instructor for one day of my Fire Officer course. The impression he made on me that day will last for my lifetime and his humor and candor cut through the often times boring subject matter. May God rest his soul. Respectfully Submitted, LT David A Collins West Shore Fire District, West Haven, CT IAFF Local 1198 Name: Joey LaPierre Email: jlapierre@wlfd.com Location: Windsor Locks Fire Department Date: January 04, 2004 Time: 18:14 Comments Kenny, As I walked along the side of the rig carrying you to your final resting place it gave me time to reflect back on all of the great times we had, I wish we could have gone around the block a few more times. It was an honor to be a firefighter with you as the chief. Your gone now but you will always be alive in the history of this department as one of the best. Watch over us and keep us safe. As you would always say to me every time you left " Hey pal I'll see ya at the big one". Name: Jack Cannone Email: jncannone@cox.net Location: Suffield, CT Date: January 04, 2004 Time: 17:44 Comments
As a former member of the WLFD & SBFD I had the pleasure of knowing Kenny for over thirty years. He was a true friend, confidant and leader. I know he would have been proud of the send off the WLFD & SBFD gave him yesterday. A detail was not missed, friends & family gathered, old stories were told, there was plenty of food & drink, and Kenny was reason why. Kenny I will miss you.

" Remember as you wipe your tears, the joy I knew throughout the years, as I did the job I loved to do, I pray this thought will see you through."
I didn't write these words but they seem to be so fitting. I never had the pleasure of working for Chief Jeffery, but I knew him through different fire service events. My deepest condolences to the SBFD, WLFD and the Jeffery family.
Name: Keith Harrison Comments Our sincerest sympathy to the Windsor Locks Fire Department and to the Jeffery family for your sudden and tragic loss. But the most important name for me, was calling Kenny my friend. He was the one that always was willing to go the extra mile for you and want nothing in return other than a smile. My Friend, may you rest in piece you will be missed by all................
