UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ALL OPEN FLAME BURNING IS BANNED IN THE TOWN OF WINDSOR LOCKS. THIS IS DUE TO THE EXTREME DROUGHT CONDITIONS IN THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS NATURAL GAS OR PROPANE GRILLS. VIOLATORS CAN BE FINED A MININUM OF $100.
The Windsor Locks Fire Department was organized in 1890. The members of the Windsor Locks Fire Department are on a volunteer basis and operate out of one station which protects approximately 12,000 residents. For the first 84 years, the station was located in the downtown area. In 1974, as part of the redevelopment of the downtown, the police and fire departments moved to the newly built Public Safety Complex on Volunteer Drive.
Although primarily residential, Windsor Locks is also home to major industrial facilities and businesses. Many of these businesses serve Bradley Int’l Aiprort, including major hotels, rental car agencies, and several cargo facilities. Add in the Connecticut River, Interstate 91, and an Amtrak railway, and it’s easy to see that the Windsor Locks Fire Department is presented with many challenges in its daily battle to protect the town and its citizens.
